The Details of Root Canal Therapy

Posted .

Root canal therapy is a beneficial and successful restorative dental treatment that can help you restore the health and function of a severely decayed or damaged tooth. If you’re about to help your smile with a root canal treatment, our dentists, Dr. LaRose and Dr. Smith, would like to tell you all about the steps involved. That way you won’t feel nervous or anxious in the dental chair. The treatment steps involved include:

Step No. 1: We will examine your tooth with dental X-rays and then administer a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding gums. Then, we will place a protective sheet over the area to isolate the tooth and keep the area clean.

Step No. 2: Wet will make an opening in the crown of the tooth and then will remove the pulp as well as clean the root canal with small tools. This can help shape the space for the filling.

Step No. 3: We will fill the tooth with gutta-percha after the tooth is shaped and cleaned. To ensure complete sealing, we will also place adhesive cement in the tooth. Finally, we will close the tooth opening with a temporary filling.

Step No. 4: We will protect the tooth and restore full function by placing a dental crown over the tooth.
