A Passion for Dentistry

I love making people smile. When a patient comes in — someone who has been avoiding smiling or showing their teeth because they are uncomfortable with how they look — I can help them. When that person leaves with a giant, healthy, and beautiful smile on their face, there is simply no better feeling.

I love helping people feel comfortable coming to see me. Many patients are anxious in the dental chair, and avoid seeing a dentist for years because of that fear. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve cared for who were terrified when they came for their first visit. My goal is to work with them so they become increasingly comfortable and relaxed at each visit, learning to stop dreading dental care, and hopefully to eventually look forward to their visits.

My patients are special to me. They’re far more than patients; in fact, they’re my friends. I love watching families grow and change. I love hearing of new babies, marriages, graduations, new jobs, new homes, and retirements. I love getting to know each person, learning what they enjoy doing and hearing about their lives.

My Education and Commitment to Continuing Education

I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, and graduated in the top 10% of my class. I was awarded a certificate of merit for achievement, proficiency, and promise in the field of oral medicine. I became a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society and the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society.

Each year I pursue continuing education offerings locally, regionally, and nationally. By staying at the leading edge of knowledge, I am able to ensure my patients always receive the highest level of care. There are constant changes in dental technology, materials, and techniques: I need to be current on everything. Areas of recent concentration include implant dentistry, 3D imaging for implant placement and restoration, and CEREC® single-visit crowns.

Away from Work

When I’m not caring for my patients, spending time with my son, Grayson, and daughter, Lily, is my priority. I especially love it when we can be enjoying the outdoors together. Our family also includes Boomer, our dog, who loves having Grayson and Lily around. Personally, I enjoy water skiing, wakeboarding, snow skiing, hiking, and camping. I love living in Coeur d’Alene, where we have access to so many wonderful recreational activities, year round!

My Education and Experience

I grew up in the Tri Cities and met my wife Shelli in high school. After serving a two-year mission for my church in Brazil, my wife and I got married.

I completed undergraduate studies at Eastern Washington with a degree in biology and chemistry and fell in love with this area. I attended dental school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska. While living there, we sure missed the mountains and trees of Spokane. After dental school I worked 14 years in the Tri-Cities, then relocated to Cashmere Washington and partnered in a practice there for seven years.

My wife and I wanted to be closer to family again, so we moved to the Spokane area, which felt like moving home. We have four children, two grandchildren, and our dog, Elliot. We love having our family close by.

Passion, Creativity and Committment – My Purpose As A Dentist
Dentistry has been a huge part of my life. I always had a great relationship with my dentist and was fascinated by the profession. I became a dentist because I love working with people, with my hands, and being creative.

I sincerely believe my role as a dentist is to provide accurate diagnostic skills with emphasis on patient education. Your care is a partnership, not a dictatorship. When we work together as a doctor and patient, the clinical outcomes are so much greater. I love continuing education, providing the most up to date and professional care to my patients. Our entire team is dedicated to this and it shows.

Thank you for trusting Kootenai Family Dental with your dental needs. We love our patients and are so thankful for you and the people you send our way.
